About the Wire

Updated

AsiaGulf Wire follows money as it moves between the Gulf states and Asia, and it follows it in both directions: a sovereign fund committing to an Asian manager, an Asian limited partner backing a Gulf-anchored fund, an Asian buyer taking a stake in a Gulf asset. Each entry names the date, both sides of the deal, the amount when it has been disclosed, and the document it comes from. Under it sits one line on why the event matters for the corridor.

What the Wire carries

  • Short dated items on single transactions and announcements, when the site is running as a daily feed.
  • A weekly digest every Friday that counts what happened and lists what was left out and why.
  • Flow notes that read a number, say what it measures and where it stops being useful.
  • Longer pieces on a single deal, and fund profiles that carry an "as of" date next to every figure.

The counting rules are on the Sources & Method page.

What we leave out

We do not cover commodity trade or logistics, general start-up news, or the internal affairs of ruling families and governments, and we do not assess the foreign policy of any state. We do not rewrite press releases that add nothing to the record.

Who publishes it

AsiaGulf Wire is published under its own name.

The publisher answers for what appears on the site.

Who writes it

The site is run by a small editorial team that answers for what it publishes. Items carry the byline "Editorial team".

What we hold ourselves to

  • Every item shows when it was published and, if it changed, when it was updated.
  • Dates in the text are absolute; we do not write "yesterday".
  • A forecast is called a forecast and an estimate an estimate.
  • A factual error is corrected in the text with a visible note.

Who pays

The site is funded by its publisher. It carries no advertising and no sponsored material, and no bank, fund or financial centre can buy a place in the record. This page changes if that ever changes.
