This page describes the personal data that AsiaGulf Wire holds, why, and the choices you have. It covers the website and any e-mail you send to the editors.
The controller
The data controller is AsiaGulf Wire. Write to editors@asiagulfwire.com about anything in this notice.
What is recorded when you read
The server that delivers the pages writes a technical log line for each request: IP address, time, the page asked for, the referring page, browser type and the response code. We use the log to keep the site running and to deal with abuse. Logs are kept for 30 days. A DNS proxy/CDN sits in front of the site. Its web analytics are off, and it processes IP addresses only to deliver the page and protect the site against attacks.
When you write to us
We keep your address, your name if you give it, and what you wrote, so that we can answer and, where it applies, correct an item. You do not have to write to us, but we cannot reply without an address. Correspondence is kept for 12 months after the last letter, longer only where a legal claim needs it. A tip that names a source is kept no longer than the check requires.
Backups
The database and files are copied regularly, as encrypted archives on external storage. Copies are kept for 30 days, and whatever was in the database when a copy was made stays in that copy until the copy expires.
Browser storage
The pages do not set cookies, and they write nothing to Local Storage or Session Storage. Because nothing is stored, there is no cookie page and no consent banner. If that changes, this page and a cookie notice change.
Why we may do this
We rely on our legitimate interest in running a secure site and answering the people who write to us.
Who receives it
- Hosting, where the site and its logs are stored: hosting in the EU
- E-mail, where correspondence is stored: a transactional e-mail service
- Backups, if kept elsewhere: encrypted archives on external storage
They process the data on our instructions. Personal data is not sold and is not handed on to advertisers.
This site is written for readers of its language wherever they live. Pages reach you through a content delivery network that operates worldwide; the server itself is in the EU.
Your rights
You may ask for access to your data, for it to be corrected or deleted, for its use to be restricted, to object to it, and, where the law gives you that right, to receive it in a portable form. Write to the address above; each request is answered individually. We may ask you to prove who you are before we act, and we reply within the time the law sets. Readers in the United States and Canada have these rights to the extent the applicable law gives them. A complaint can also go to the data-protection authority of the country where you live or work.
No decision about you is made by automated means alone.
Children
The site is written for professionals and is not aimed at children. We do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If what we do with data changes, this page changes with it in the same release.
